Steps to Cleaning Asphalt Shingles

May 21, 2020 By State Roofing

Asphalt shingles have a porous surface and allow vegetation growth, as well as the appearance of roof mold and mildew. All these will keep moisture on the roof and contribute to its premature degradation. To stay safe and prevent these problems, you will have to include cleaning the roof in the periodic maintenance.

Cleaning asphalt shingles is not so complicated and skilled owners can do it themselves, although calling practiced roofing contractors in Houston TX remains the safest option.

practiced roofing contractors in Houston TX are the best sources for roof cleaning

Before starting a roof cleaning operation, you must get the right safety equipment: slip-resistant shoes, safety goggles, a safety rope, long sleeves, and long pants.

Before applying a cleaning agent, you must first remove debris from the roof. You can do this with a leaf blower or a broom. Make sure you do not forget about the gutters too! Some people also recommend washing the roof before applying chemical cleaner, but this is not necessary unless it is specified in the manufacturer`s indications.

Common cleaning agents include different solutions available in specialty stores. You can also make your own cleaner by mixing chlorine bleach and water. TSP is also a great cleaner.
