Hurricane Preparedness from The City of Houston

The City of Houston sent out the following notice last week regarding Hurricane Preparedness. If you or someone you know may need special assistance in case of a hurricane, please take a moment to review the following:

Houstonians are Urged to Sign up for Hurricane Emergency Assistance

As Houston approaches the most active part of hurricane season, the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management (OEM) would like Houston residents who may need additional assistance during an emergency to register for the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR).

Originally called the Transportation Assistance Registry (TAR), STEAR is intended to help emergency planners and first responders help those who may need additional assistance during a disaster. Residents who do not have access to the necessary transportation to evacuate themselves, who rely on electricity for medical needs or who have a disability should register with the STEAR today to make sure that first responders know where they are and what they need if disaster strikes.

There are three ways Houston residents can register for STEAR:
. Call 2-1-1: A trained operator will take your information
. Visit houstonoem.org: Register using an online form
. Use a paper form: Download the paper form and fax or email it to the United Way to the number or email address listed on the form
If you have registered for the TAR in the past, it is important to re-register with STEAR, as these lists are cleared every January.
For more information on the STEAR program or how to register contact OEM by by email at info@houstonoem.net, by phone at 713.884.4500 or visit houstonoem.org.
